The association : History
Since it's construction in 1982, Alcyon and it's skipper Jacques Landron have spent much time getting a large number of people to discover the marine environment, while putting at the same time an emphasis on a sensitive and human approach of the sea and sailing.
From now on, Jacques will bequeath his boat to Participe Futur so that Alcyon will go on navigating with the same spirit of discovery and respect.

The founding members of the non-profit organization Participe Futur have all participated in the last 15 years in cetacean research trips organised in the Mediterranean on the Alcyon: they are typically either sailors or teachers or scientists or volunteers. The presence among the board of swiss members quite naturally led to the creation of Participe Futur Suisse, another non-profit organization, aiming to widen the sphere of activity of Participe Futur. The two associations have identical aims, are inseparable and work together for the conservation of natural habitats.
|
Mission Our aim is to favour discovery and study of the environment while bearing in mind it's protection and durable conservation, by promoting the following points:
• research: members of the scientific committee contribute to research programmes sharing their skills and experience.
|
 |
 |
• observation: we organise, for our members, observation trips at sea, where they are supervised by specialised naturalists and biologists.
• education: teaching-aid files on subjects related to science and environmental issues are made available to teachers.
• awareness: we use all audio/video resources available to us in France and in Switzerland to broadcast the results of our activities, especially in schools.
• collaboration: we work with other associations, foundations and organizations who have similar aims and the same work ethics.
The boat
Participe Futur owns Alcyon, a 14 m norwegian ketch of Colin Archer type. Its solid construction enables it to sail on all latitudes. The maintenance of the boat and the program of navigation are managed by the members of Participe Futur.
